Exhaustion

"I am worried about you Sam, do you ever get time to rest, relax, or go home?" The question came from my dear friend after helping out with club last night.  She was not the only one who took one look at me and asked if I was alright.  The truth is, I feel exhausted but thats the reality of my life the majority of the time.  I am struggling to find the balance in life. I want nothing more than to have all the time and energy in the world to offer where it is needed. Today I took a much needed day to relax and spend time alone and with God but I cannot help but feel a sense of guilt as I think of my friend, a young mother, who is homeless and trying to care for 3 kids under the age of 3.  I think of another friend of mine who is also homeless and trying to balance work, finding a place to stay and raise 4 young children on her own.  Then I think of my kids, a young girl who recently ran away from home, who I know is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders and could use someone to talk to.  My mind spins, how can I selfishly say 'I need rest sorry I can't help you' when they too desperately need rest?

Wise words come flooding my mind, words from counselors and mentors in the past who told me, 'You are not the Savior, you cannot save the world. You need to take care of yourself or you cannot help anyone else.'

I am thankful for their advice, but it is a daily struggle. I want to give so much more.
